Open Source & Acknowledgments

Last updated: October 29, 2026

ChristChant is built on the work of a lot of other people. This page lists the open-source software, fonts and bundled engines the desktop app ships with, and the license each comes under. It doesn't change how you use ChristChant or what you're licensed to do with it. See the End User License Agreement for that.

None of this is a request for anything from you. It's the notice these licenses ask us to give, gathered in one place instead of buried in a settings screen.

1. Runtime & application framework

The desktop app itself: the shell it runs in, and the framework its interface is built with.

5. Bundled typefaces

The app embeds these typeface families as local font files. All are released under the SIL Open Font License, version 1.1, except Permanent Marker, Rock Salt, Satisfy and Yellowtail, which are under the Apache License 2.0. Each family's copyright notice and the full license text are in FONT-LICENSES.txt.

Full licence texts

The lists above name the principal components. The copyright notice and licence text of every package we ship, including the ones those packages depend on, are in these files:

The desktop app carries its own copy, in the third-party folder of its installation.

6. Document engine: LibreOffice

The app bundles a pruned, unmodified binary distribution of LibreOffice, run headless for converting and rendering presentation and document files. LibreOffice is a product of The Document Foundation and the LibreOffice contributors.

License: Mozilla Public License v2.0 (MPL-2.0) / GNU LGPL v3.0-or-later. It runs as a separate, dynamically-loaded component rather than being statically linked into ChristChant's own code, which is what keeps its copyleft terms from extending to the rest of the app and, under the LGPL, what preserves your right to substitute the LGPL-licensed libraries yourself. All copyright, patent, trademark and attribution notices that ship with it (its LICENSE.html, license.txt, NOTICE and readme files) are preserved unaltered.

As required under MPL-2.0 and the LGPL, LibreOffice's complete corresponding source is published by The Document Foundation at libreoffice.org/about-us/source-code .

7. Media engine: FFmpeg

The app bundles a statically-built FFmpeg binary, run as a separate external process to encode and transmit live program output for streaming. Unmodified source or binary; © The FFmpeg developers.

License: GNU General Public License v3.0-or-later (GPL-3.0). It runs as an unmodified, separately-invoked executable rather than a library linked into the app's own process, the same "mere aggregation" arrangement LibreOffice's LGPL pieces rely on above.

As required under GPL-3.0, FFmpeg's complete corresponding source is published by the FFmpeg project at ffmpeg.org/download.html#get-sources .

8. NDI® SDK

The app integrates the NDI video-over-IP protocol through the grandi package for its NDI source and receiver capability. The grandi binding itself is open source (Apache License 2.0); the NDI SDK binaries it embeds are licensed separately, directly by their publisher, under the NDI SDK License. NDI™ is a trademark of NewTek, Inc.; reference to it here is for interoperability identification only and doesn't imply endorsement or affiliation.

9. Scriptural & liturgical content

Scripture shown through the app, where designated King James Version (KJV), is in the public domain. Where you import other translations, hymnody, song lyrics or liturgical material, you're responsible for holding the rights or licenses that content requires, including CCLI or comparable licensing where it applies. ChristChant makes no claim of ownership over content you supply.

Some translations in the in-app Bible library are not public domain. They are distributed unchanged under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), remain the property of their copyright holders, and can be downloaded in their original form from the links below:

  • Ang Pulong sa Dios (Cebuano, OCCB): Biblica® Open Cebuano Contemporary Bible™. Copyright © 2009, 2010, 2014, 2024 Biblica, Inc. Original text.
  • Ang Pulong Sang Dios (Hiligaynon, OHCB): Biblica® Open Hiligaynon Contemporary Bible™. Copyright © 1996, 2006, 2011, 2022 Biblica, Inc. Original text.
  • Ti Biblia (Ilocano, ILOULB): Unlocked Literal Bible in Ilocano. Copyright © 2019 Door43 World Missions Community. Original text.

“Biblica” is a trademark registered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office by Biblica, Inc. and is used with permission. Naming these translations doesn't imply that their publishers endorse or are affiliated with ChristChant.

10. Where the full notice lives

This page mirrors the desktop app's own "Legal Notice" screen, shown before every session, for convenience and reachability outside the app. That in-app screen is the authoritative, version-stamped copy and travels with whatever build you have installed; if the two ever drift, the in-app notice governs. It's not a grant of license to ChristChant's own proprietary code, and doesn't enlarge or diminish any rights the third-party licenses above grant on their own terms.
