Broadcast Studio: quality, sound mixer and stream health
Set your destination and quality, mix the microphones and computer sound, and watch the health of the stream while you are live.
On this page
Direct Live has two layers. The Provider tab of the Master panel is a simple go-live card with quick faders. The Broadcast Studio is the full control room: destination, quality and the sound mixer.
Before you start
Direct Live sends the Broadcast screen. If it is off, you will see The Broadcast screen is turned off: choose Turn on Broadcast.
Destination
- Choose the live platform: YouTube, Facebook or a custom server.
- Paste your stream key. On YouTube, find it in YouTube Studio under Create, then Go live. On Facebook, open Live Producer and choose Streaming software.
- For a custom server, choose Use a different server and enter its rtmp:// or rtmps:// address, without the key.
The key is encrypted on this computer and never shown in logs. Use Forget saved stream key to remove it.
Quality
Match quality to your internet upload. ChristChant suggests a Recommended bitrate in Mbps, or you can enter a Custom bitrate in kbps. The picture is 1920×1080, H.264.
The sound mixer
The mixer has a strip for each source of sound. Everything is mixed at full level with a limiter, so it never distorts.
- Microphones: one strip per input.
- Computer sound: the videos and music playing on the Broadcast screen.
- Camera sound: if a camera has no microphone of its own, choose the input where its sound arrives, such as a capture card's audio. Audio follows camera keeps sound and picture together.
On each strip you can mute, solo, and open the processing:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Low cut | Removes rumble below 80 Hz. |
| Noise gate | Silences a microphone when nobody is speaking. |
| Leveller | Evens out loud and quiet speech. |
| Tone | Shapes the sound with a simple EQ. |
| Duck under microphone | Dips music and video sound while someone speaks. Set how deep it dips and when it starts. |
| Sync offset | Delays a sound so it meets the picture. |
Use Monitor to listen to the stream mix through headphones. Audio quality sets the sound bitrate, in AAC stereo.
Health while you are live
- On air shows when you are live.
- Bitrate, Frames and Health show what is reaching the platform.
- Stream loudness shows whether viewers will hear you. The studio warns you if nothing is reaching the stream, if the sound is too quiet, or if it is clipping.
- Connection dropped · reconnecting means ChristChant is reconnecting for you.
Change settings on air
You can change settings while live. Destination, quality and sound inputs take effect after a quick restart, which the studio offers when you change one. You will see Stream restarted with your changes.
