Troubleshooting

Back up your library and restore it

ChristChant saves a safety copy of your songs and services automatically. Save one yourself before big changes, move to a new computer, or roll back.

Your songs, playlists and services live on the presentation computer. ChristChant keeps a safety copy for you, and you can save a copy of your own to move to a new computer, send to support, or keep somewhere safe.

What's in a backup

  • Songs, song sections and artists.
  • Playlists, services, the schedule and the queue.
  • Your music, video and background libraries (the lists, not the files themselves).
  • Your scripture and song style profiles.
The Advanced section holds backups and restore.

Automatic backups

This is on by default. The first time you open ChristChant each day, it saves a safety copy on the computer, and it keeps the most recent ten. To check or change it, open Settings and choose Advanced.

  • Back up automatically turns it on or off, and shows when the last one was saved.
  • Back Up Now saves one straight away.
  • The list below shows each safety copy. Click Restore next to one to go back to it.

Save a backup file

  1. Open Settings and choose Advanced.
  2. Under Back Up, click Save Backup.
  3. Choose where to save the file, such as a USB drive or a cloud folder.

The page shows when you last saved one. Save a backup before reinstalling, before changing computers, and before anything big.

Restore from a backup

  1. In Settings, Advanced, under Restore, click Choose File… and pick your backup file.
  2. ChristChant shows what's inside. Check it's the one you want and click Restore.

Move to a new computer

  1. On the old computer, save a backup file and copy it to the new one.
  2. Install ChristChant on the new computer, sign in, and move your plan to it (see Moving your plan to a new or second computer).
  3. Restore the backup file in Settings, Advanced.
  4. Copy your media files across, and download your Bible translations again.
What's the difference between Reset preferences and Reset ChristChant?

Reset preferences only puts the General settings and the appearance back to their defaults. Your library, screens, plans and account aren't touched. Reset ChristChant, in the Danger Zone, permanently deletes every song, playlist, service, schedule and media file on the computer and restarts the app. Save a backup first.

Do I need the internet to back up?

No. Backups are saved on your computer, so they work offline. See The internet is down on a Sunday morning.
