A booth machine usually does not have an Office licence, and the sermon deck usually arrives as a PowerPoint file. ChristChant opens it itself. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion happens on this computer.

Choose how to import

Open File, then Import. There are two ways to bring in a PowerPoint deck, and one for PDFs.

ChoiceYou getBest for
PowerPoint as Images (Pixel Fidelity)Every slide looks exactly as it does in PowerPoint. The slides are pictures, so the text cannot be edited.Decks that must look exactly right, with unusual fonts or complex layouts.
PowerPoint as Editable Slides (May Shift)Real text and shapes you can restyle. Complex slides may shift slightly.Decks you want to change, restyle or reuse.
PDF as ImagesEach page becomes a slide, in order.PDF sermon notes, bulletins and handouts.

You can also drag a .pptx onto the Presentations tab. That uses the Images option.

Steps

  1. Choose File → Import and pick the option you want.
  2. Select your file.
  3. Wait for the progress window. Large decks take a little longer.
  4. The deck appears in your Presentations tab, ready to open in the preview.

The first time on Windows

On Windows, importing PowerPoint needs a one-time setup. ChristChant shows Setting up PowerPoint support and downloads about 149 MB. The download starts in the background shortly after ChristChant launches, and it resumes if the connection drops. Do it once while you are online, and after that imports work offline.

On a Mac, PowerPoint support is built into the app, so there is nothing to download.

What comes across as editable slides

  • Text content and its position on the slide.
  • Shapes and their layout.
  • Slide order.

Next: Use the four slide lanes to put the deck where you want it.
