Keep the band in sync: cues, click and talkback
Send the band a cue on the Stage screen, run a click on their phones, and speak to them through talkback, all from the Team Sync panel.
On this page
The band can't read your mind, and they can't hear you across a loud stage. The Team Sync panel on the right of the main window has three tools for that, one per tab: Cues, Metro and Talkback. They work with the phones you've paired as remotes (see Pair a phone as the remote).
Who gets what
Each paired phone has a role. The role decides what that person can do, and whether the cues, click and talkback reach them.
| Role | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Pastor | Full control of the desktop, slides, annotation, chat and messages. |
| Media Team | Screens, outputs and cues, plus chat and messages. Sees the metronome status only. |
| Worship Leader | Charts and lyrics, live key changes, Stage cues, chat and messages. Hears the click and talkback. |
| Worship Team | Charts, lyrics, schedules, the click and the group chat. Hears talkback. Cannot put text on the Stage screen. |
Cues: one-tap messages for the Stage screen
A cue is a short instruction such as GO TO BRIDGE that appears big on the Stage screen for a few seconds. It never shows to the congregation, and nothing needs approval before it appears.
- Open Team Sync and choose Cues.
- Under New cue, pick a colour, give the button a label (up to 24 characters) and type the stage text (up to 22 characters).
- Click Add cue. You can have up to 50.
- Click the play button on a cue to fire it on the Stage screen. Double-click a cue to edit it.
A new install comes with three cues: Repeat Chorus, Go to Bridge and Drop / Soft. Edit or delete them freely. Click the pin on a cue to put it on the phone rail, the short list a Worship Leader sees first. Everything else is under All cues on the phone.
The Stage screen itself is covered in Set up the stage monitor for the band and speaker.
Metro: a click on the band's phones
ChristChant never plays the click on the main computer. It plays on the phones of the band, so only they hear it. The Metro tab is a status display: it shows the song's tempo and time signature, a swinging pendulum, a beat for each count in the bar, and a count of how many phones are listening.
- Give the song a BPM and time signature in its chart (see Edit a song).
- Start the click with Ctrl + M on Windows or Cmd + M on a Mac. Press it again to stop.
- Or let it run by itself: in the same tab, turn on Auto-play on live so the click starts when you take a song live.
Under Live Console the tab has three switches: Auto-play on live, Auto-stop off live (leaving the song, or landing on one with no BPM, stops the click) and Auto-start on app startup. Under Metronome Defaults you can set a fallback Default BPM and Default time signature, used only when a song has none, and choose whether the click is sent to the Worship Leader, the Worship Team, or both.
Talkback: speak to the band
Talkback sends your microphone to the phones of the Worship Leader and the Worship Team, so you can give a quiet instruction without walking up on stage.
- Open Team Sync and choose Talkback.
- Pick your microphone under Input Device. The refresh button rescans for new ones.
- Click LIVE to start. The Input Level meter shows that your voice is being picked up.
- Click STOP when you're done.
What if a phone disconnects mid-service?
Nothing changes on the main screens. The cues, click and talkback are conveniences for the band, and the desktop keeps presenting whether or not any phone is connected.
Where do I change the shortcut for the click?
Open Edit, Key Mapping in the menu bar. Toggle metronome is listed there, and you can assign any key.

More in Team & remote
- Pair a phone as the remoteConnect a phone with a QR code or PIN, give it a role, and approve it at the booth. Works over your Wi-Fi, or over the app's own hotspot on Windows.
- Choose a role for each phone: Pastor, Media Team, Worship Leader or Worship TeamEvery phone you pair gets a role that decides what it may do, so a drummer cannot black out the screen and a pastor can still draw on a verse.
- Draw on the live screen from your phoneUse the pen and highlighter on the remote to point at a verse, circle a word or underline a line while it is on the screens.
- Use the ChristChant mobile app on its own: Bible, songs and notesThe phone app is also a full offline Bible and a place to study, journal and prepare, even when it is not paired to a desktop.
